Klostertaler Umwelthütte

Klostertaler Umwelthütte sits at 2,362m in the Klostertal valley of Vorarlberg, deep in the Silvretta Alps. Reach it from Klösterle by hiking the Klostertal trail northeast for roughly 4 hours. The approach follows the valley floor through larch forest before climbing more steeply in the final stages. Most parties use this hut as a staging point for traverses across the Silvretta massif or ascents of peaks like Vorderer Silvretta (3,244m) and Großer Piz Buin (3,995m). The location also suits ski-mountaineers in spring.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and accommodates 50 people across mixed dormitories. Meals emphasize simple, sustaining food—expect substantial suppers and packed lunches on request. The hut has no shower but provides basic washing facilities. Water comes from a reliable spring. The building employs passive solar heating and renewable energy where feasible, reflecting its environmental focus. Open from June through September, with variable spring access depending on snow conditions.
Book directly with the hut for July and August—these months fill 2-3 months ahead. Email or phone well in advance if you need a packed lunch for an early start. The hut closes in bad weather, so confirm conditions before the final approach.
