Tübinger Hut

Tübinger Hütte sits at 2,192m in the Appenzell Alps on the Vorarlberg–St. Gallen border. Reach it from Säntis via the Säntiserland base station (accessible by cable car from Appenzell) by hiking southeast across the Säntis plateau for 2.5 hours, or from Appenzell town via the Ebenalp route in 4–5 hours. The hut marks the junction of several ridgeline trails linking towards Säntis and the northern limestone peaks.

Tübinger Hütte is run by the German Alpine Club (DAV) and offers 40 beds in shared dormitories. Meals include a self-catering kitchen and a simple restaurant serving hearty Alpine meals and local Vorarlberg specialities. The hut runs water systems fed from mountain springs; toilet facilities are basic but adequate. It opens year-round but staffing and services reduce significantly November–March—confirm availability before winter visits. The hut caters primarily to hikers using the Säntiserland network, with some winter mountaineering access via ski touring.

The hut accepts cash only; bring Austrian or Swiss francs. Arrive by early afternoon to secure a good bunk position and allow time for meals.
