About

The Neue Heilbronner Hütte stands at 2,320 m in the heart of the Verwall (Verwallgruppe), on the boundary between Vorarlberg and Tyrol and astride the European watershed between the Danube and the Rhine. Owned by the DAV Sektion Heilbronn and currently run by Olivia and Manfred Immler, it is a comfortable base for hikers, mountaineers and mountain bikers exploring the Verwall's lakes and passes. The hut offers 48 beds in rooms plus 56 mattress-camp places; the neighbouring self-catering Peter-Käs-Hütte doubles as a 28-place winter room. It usually opens from mid-June to early October. The shortest approach climbs from the Zeinisjoch at the Kops reservoir (1,820 m), reached by the toll road from Galtür and Partenen, gaining about 500 m in roughly 2.5 hours. Longer valley routes lead up from Partenen and Gaschurn in the Montafon. The hut is a hub on several multi-day traverses, with crossings to the Friedrichshafener Hütte in about 3 hours and to the Konstanzer and Neue Reutlinger huts in around 5 hours each. It takes part in the Alpenverein family programme, with a climbing wall, mountain streams and alpine animals close by.
