Refuge du Col D'Allos

Refuge du Col d'Allos sits at 2,250m on the Col d'Allos pass in the Alpes-Maritimes, straddling the border between Provence and the high Mediterranean Alps. The hut is reached via the GR5 long-distance trail or from the Vallée de l'Ubaye. Most approaches take 4–5 hours from the nearest road-accessible trailhead. The hut serves as a pivot point for walkers crossing between the Parc National du Mercantour and the upper Verdon drainage.
The refuge holds 40 beds across shared dormitories. Staff provide evening meals and packed lunches; bring your own sleeping bag unless you arrange a hire in advance. The hut runs seasonally from June to September, with weekends accessible outside peak summer if you contact the guardian ahead. Water comes from a spring; solar panels support minimal electric lighting. The facilities are basic mountain standards—no heating beyond body warmth and blankets, no showers, squat toilet.
Book by phone directly with the guardian. July and August weekends fill by mid-June; single nights are easier to secure than multi-night stays. June and September offer quieter conditions and more reliable space. The hut rarely turns away walkers in bad weather, but call ahead if you're arriving during peak season to confirm a bed.
