Cabin de Sorniot

Cabane de Sorniot sits at 2,064m in the Chamonix valley, above the Vallée de Sorniot. Reach it from Chamonix by hiking 2–3 hours north via the Sorniot trail. The approach is moderate and well-marked, gaining roughly 600m from the valley floor. You can also access it from Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval on the opposite side of the massif, though this route is longer and less common.
The cabin sleeps 46 in a mix of dormitory rooms and smaller shared chambers. The FFCAM-affiliated hut serves dinner and breakfast during the season; a self-catering kitchen is available if you prefer to cook. Water is piped from the spring above. The hut operates year-round but is most reliably staffed July to September. Winter and shoulder-season access requires advance warning—contact the guardian first.
Book direct by email or phone, especially for July and August weekends when beds fill 4–6 weeks ahead. The hut sits on the Chamonix–Sixt traverse, a popular multi-day route, so plan accordingly. Solo hikers and small groups usually find space with shorter notice. Call ahead in off-season to confirm opening dates and conditions.
