Cabin du Scex Carro

Cabane du Scex Carro sits at 2,000m on the eastern side of the Chaîne de Belledonne, in the Isère department. Most parties approach from the Hameau de l'Alpe via a hiking trail that takes roughly 3 hours. The cabin lies on routes linking the lower valleys to high alpine terrain, making it useful for walkers crossing between the Vallée de l'Isère and higher ridge systems. The setting is pastoral rather than remote—you're on working mountain terrain with good visibility.
The cabin accommodates 18 people in basic shared dormitory rooms. Meals are available on request; bring your own sleeping bag. There is water from a natural source. The hut operates year-round but conditions above 2,000m can be harsh in winter, so check access before travelling in cold months. Mobile phone coverage is present but unreliable. This is a working mountain refuge, not a staffed alpine hut with hot showers or extensive facilities.

July and August fill faster; plan 8–10 weeks ahead for those months. Phone ahead if you need meals; arriving without notice may leave you without dinner.
