Cabin du Demècre

Cabane du Demècre sits at 2,361m in the Ecrins massif, accessible via the Vallouise valley. The standard approach takes 3–4 hours from Ailefroide, climbing through alpine meadows and rocky terrain. Most parties arrive in a day from the road, though the hut works equally well as a mid-route stop on longer traverses through the range.
The cabin holds 27 beds in shared dormitories. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard; packed lunches are available. Water comes from a reliable spring. There are no showers and no self-catering kitchen—you eat what the guardian cooks. The hut operates year-round, though winter access requires mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness. Summer season (June to September) is when most climbers and trekkers pass through.
Book directly by phone or email as soon as your dates are fixed. July and August fill quickly; aim to reserve 6–8 weeks ahead for those months. June, September, and shoulder periods are quieter. The guardian can advise on conditions, water levels, and onward route options if you're unsure of your next destination.
