About
Cabane du Trient sits at 3,170m in the Mont-Blanc massif, on the Swiss side of the French border. Approach from Vallorcine (French Alps) via the Glacier du Trient in 4–5 hours. The route crosses mixed terrain and moderate glacier; crampons and an ice axe are essential. In winter, avalanche risk makes the approach serious and often closed. Most parties approach from Switzerland via Chamonix side instead.
The cabin hosts 90 people across dormitory rooms. The FFCAM-affiliated hut serves meals year-round; a self-catering kitchen is available if you bring your own food. Water comes from snowmelt. The hut operates as a base for Mont-Blanc ascents via the Three Monts route and ski-mountaineering descents. Summer (June–September) is peak season. Winter access depends on avalanche conditions; contact the hut directly before planning a winter trip.
Book 2–3 months ahead for July and August weekends. Email contact is preferred for detailed queries about current conditions and equipment requirements. Phone booking is available but email ensures you reach staff who read French and English. Confirm glacier conditions and bring your own crampons and ice axe—the hut cannot rent them.
