Chalet des Tuffes

Chalet des Tuffes sits at 1,250m in the Haute-Savoie, serving walkers on routes through the lower alpine valleys. The hut is accessible by car to a nearby car park, then 30–45 minutes on foot depending on trail conditions. It also sits on established hiking circuits that connect to longer valley traverses, making it a practical base for 2–3 day trips rather than a summit refuge.
The chalet holds 43 beds across mixed and private rooms. Meals are served daily: a cooked dinner and breakfast included with overnight stays. The kitchen provides packed lunches on request. Water and basic washing facilities are available. The hut opens year-round, though winter access depends on road conditions and snow levels; contact ahead before visiting November to March. FFCAM manages the facility and maintains it to standard alpine refuge standards.
Book direct by phone well ahead for July and August—weekends fill 6–8 weeks in advance during summer. Shoulder seasons (May–June, September) have better availability. Weekday visits outside school holidays are easiest to arrange. The hut accepts walk-ins when beds are free, but do not rely on this during peak weeks. Call to confirm current opening status in winter months before making the journey.
