About

Refuge du Plan de l'Aiguille sits at 2,207m on the north face of Mont-Blanc, accessed via the Chamonix valley. Reach it from Chamonix town by taking the Montenvers train up to 1,913m, then hiking east for 1 hour to Plan de l'Aiguille station (also served by cable-car). From there, the hut lies 45 minutes walk uphill. Most climbers use this hut as a staging point for Mont-Blanc ascents via the Goûter route, but it also serves hikers on the Tour du Mont-Blanc and those crossing to the Mer de Glace. The approach is well-marked and non-technical.
The hut holds around 60 people in dorm rooms with blankets provided. Meals are simple but hearty—dinner, breakfast, and packed lunch options support early starts on climbing days. Water comes from snowmelt. The hut runs year-round but is most reliably open June through September; winter visits require advance warning and commitment, as staffing is minimal. Solar panels and gas stoves provide heating and cooking. No shower facilities.
Book 2–3 months ahead for July and August. The FFCAM manages the hut; contact them directly or book online through their website. July and August weekends fill completely. June and September offer more flexibility. Arrive by early afternoon to settle in before dinner service around 6pm. The hut accepts card payments and cash.
