Rifugio Bertone (nuovo)

Rifugio Bertone sits at 1,980m in the Haute-Savoie, accessible via the Val d'Aosta approach from Italy or from the French side near Chamonix. The standard route takes 3–4 hours from the nearest road access. The hut works well as a base for day walks across the Mont-Blanc massif foothills and as an overnight stop on longer Alpine traverses.

The rifugio operates as a simple mountain hut with basic dormitory accommodation and a small dining area. Expect 30–40 bed spaces across multiple rooms. Meals are available in summer months (typically June through September). Water comes from mountain sources; toilets are basic but functional. The building is relatively new compared to many traditional huts in the region, though amenities remain straightforward rather than luxurious. The hut closes in winter and during shoulder seasons.

Contact the rifugio directly by phone to check current opening dates and book beds, particularly for weekends and July–August when demand is heavy. Reserve at least 2–3 weeks ahead for summer weekends. Half-board (bed and meals) is standard, though you can often negotiate bed-only rates if you bring your own food. Confirm whether they accept cash only or card payments when you call, as some small huts in this region have limited facilities.
