Rifugio Monte Bianco

Rifugio Monte Bianco sits at 1,680m on the Italian side of Mont-Blanc, above the Vallée de la Thuile. Reach it from the village of La Thuile in Italy (allow 2.5 hours on foot from the car park). The trail climbs steadily through larch forest and alpine meadow, gaining 700m. You can also access it from Chamonix via the TMB route, though this adds a full day's walk. The hut lies within striking distance of several 4,000m peaks and offers access to the Grand Balcon Sud traverse, which links Mont-Blanc circuit routes.
The rifugio accommodates around 40 people in dormitory rooms. Meals are available at dinner and breakfast; half-board is the standard option but they can provide packed lunches. The building has reliable water and a wood stove for common areas. It operates year-round, though staffing and meal service drop outside June to September. Winter access requires mountaineering experience and proper equipment.
Book directly by email or phone at least 2–3 weeks ahead for July and August. The hut fills quickly during the height of summer and during the TMB season (late June through early September). Outside peak months, you have more flexibility. Confirm your arrival time when booking, particularly if arriving late or in poor visibility. The hut keeper speaks Italian and French; English communication may be limited.
