Bivacco Nino Soardi

Bivacco Nino Soardi sits at 2,616m in the Cottian Alps on the border between Piedmont and France. The hut serves as a base for approaches to Mont Viso (3,841m) and traverses in the Monviso massif. Most parties reach it from Pian del Re in the Valle Po in 2–3 hours, gaining roughly 600m through steep terrain. Winter access is possible but requires alpine experience and proper equipment. The location is remote—expect silence and exposure.
The bivacco operates as a basic mountain refuge managed by CAI (Club Alpino Italiano), specifically the Sezione Uget Valpellice. It has 12 beds across simple dormitory accommodation. There is no guardian in residence; it functions as an unstaffed shelter with a logbook. Bring your own sleeping bag and mat. Water comes from a nearby source. The hut is typically accessible from June through September, though snow can linger into July depending on the year. Always check conditions before departure.
