Gite de Saint-Disdier

Gîte de Saint-Disdier sits at 1030m in the Hautes-Alpes, a low-altitude base for hiking into the Parc National des Écrins. The village of Saint-Disdier lies in the Drac valley, accessible by car from Grenoble (roughly 1 hour) or by regional bus. The gîte works well as a starting point for day hikes to higher valleys and alpine lakes, or as a rest stop between longer traverses. Approach on foot from the village takes 30 minutes.
The gîte accommodates 24 people in simple dorm and private rooms. Half-board is available (dinner and breakfast included). Kitchen facilities allow self-catering if preferred. Hot showers are standard. The building operates year-round but is less reliably staffed outside summer months (June to September). Winter visits require advance arrangement. The gîte is managed as a mountain accommodation rather than a full alpine hut—expect comfortable but basic conditions suited to walkers rather than climbers.
Book 2–3 months ahead for July and August, especially weekends. Email contact is the most reliable method: confirm availability before committing travel plans. Phone calls work but may reach an answering machine in shoulder seasons. Group bookings (8+ people) need discussion in advance. The gîte closes for 2–3 weeks between seasons for maintenance; check the calendar before planning winter or spring visits.
