Rifugio Battaglione Alpini Monte Granero

Rifugio Battaglione Alpini Monte Granero stands at 2,377m on the Italian side of the western Alps, near the French border. The hut serves walkers traversing between the Val Maira and surrounding high passes. Most approach via the Valle Gesso or from Pietraporzio, with 3–4 hours of hiking from the valley floor. The location works well as a staging point for peaks like Monte Granero itself or onward crossings toward the Queyras region in France.
The rifugio holds 48 beds in mixed dormitories. Half-board is standard (dinner and breakfast included). The kitchen produces solid mountain fare—pasta, polenta, local cheese—nothing fancy but generous. Water comes from mountain springs; the hut has no shower, though washing facilities exist. It typically opens June through September, depending on snow melt. The staff are straightforward and used to mixed Italian-French hiking traffic.

Off-season (June, September) you'll find space more readily but may need to confirm opening status. Bring cash if possible; card facilities are limited. Expect a working mountain hut, not a hotel.
