About

Cabane de Roybon sits at 2,340m in the Chaîne de Belledonne, a 90-minute hike from Allevard-les-Bains. The approach climbs steadily through forest then opens onto alpine meadows. Summer access is straightforward. Winter and spring require avalanche assessment and potentially skis or snowshoes depending on snow cover. The cabin works well as a base for day climbs in Belledonne or as a night stop on longer ridge traverses toward Pic de la Dent.
The cabin accommodates 20 people in dormitory bunks. Hot meals are available if you book ahead; bring your own food otherwise. There is running water and basic toilets. No showers. The guardian typically opens from June through September, though exact dates depend on snow conditions. FFCAM manages the hut. Light stove heating helps in shoulder seasons.
Contact the CAF section in Lyon or Grenoble to check current opening dates and meal availability. Book meals at least one day ahead if you plan to eat there. The hut fills quickly during July and August weekends, particularly around Bastille Day. Arrive mid-morning or call ahead if you're coming without a reservation.
