Baraque des Clôs

Baraque des Clôs sits at 2,326m in the Chaîne de Belledonne, accessible from the Pont de Pierre trailhead via the Gorges du Dolon valley. The approach takes 3–4 hours on a well-marked path that climbs steadily through beech and spruce forest before opening onto alpine pasture. The hut serves as a base for ascents of Mont Blanc de Cheirel (2,928m) and traverses across the Belledonne ridge. Winter access is possible for experienced skiers and snowshoers, though you'll need to be self-sufficient.
The guardian operates this small hut seasonally from June through September. Expect basic mountain accommodation: 30 beds in dormitory rooms, communal dining, and reliable water from a spring. Evening meals focus on hearty mountain food. The kitchen is simple but functional. No showers, though a basin and cold water are available. The hut relies on a solar panel system, so evening electricity is limited. Bring a headlamp.
Book directly with the guardian by phone or email as soon as your trip dates are set—summer weekends fill 4–6 weeks ahead. July and August are peak season; early June and September offer quieter conditions and reliable weather windows for ridge traverses. Half-board (bed and meals) is standard. The hut operates under FFCAM management and welcomes both casual hikers and mountaineers planning multi-day ridge routes.
