Habert de Pravouta

Habert de Pravouta sits at 1,600m in the Isère, on the eastern flank of the Chaîne de Belledonne. This is a small, working mountain farm converted into a refuge—expect authentic alpine pasture life rather than a purpose-built hut. Access is via the Vallée de l'Eau d'Olle. From the village of Fond de France, allow 2–2.5 hours on foot to reach the hut. The terrain is steady and well-marked but exposed in places. Summer is the only practical season; snow blocks the approach from November through April.

The hut offers 8 beds across simple shared rooms. Meals are provided on request—the guardian prepares basic but filling dinners and breakfasts using local ingredients. A wood stove heats the main room. Water comes from the stream; the hut has no shower. This is a working farm, so expect animals, working routines, and few creature comforts. Winter visits require prior arrangement and strong winter mountaineering experience. The hut operates June through September, though dates shift with snow melt.

Contact the guardian directly to book; there is no formal reservation system. Ring ahead the day before arrival to confirm a bed and order meals. July and August fill quickly; aim to arrive before mid-afternoon. This hut suits climbers approaching Belledonne peaks and hikers seeking genuine mountain solitude, not convenience.
