Refuge des 7 Laux

Refuge des 7 Laux sits at 2,135m in the Chaîne de Belledonne, east of Grenoble in Isère. Reach it from the village of Prapoutel (1,200m) via a hiking trail that takes 3–4 hours, gaining 935m steadily through forest then open alpine terrain. In winter and spring, approach from the Alpe de Sept-Laux side. The hut marks a natural stopping point on ridge traverses across the Belledonne massif and serves as a base for day climbs on surrounding peaks.
The refuge holds 50 beds in shared dorms and a few private rooms. Full meals are served at dinner; packed lunches available for hikers departing early. Water comes from a spring on-site. The hut has no WiFi or mobile signal—disconnect is deliberate. The FFCAM-affiliated refuge operates year-round, though staffing and meal service are reliable only June to September. Winter access requires mountaineering skills and prior arrangement with the guardian.
Book directly by phone at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Saturdays fill quickly during the climbing season. The hut fills regularly in summer with guided groups, so weekday visits offer more comfort. Contact the guardian before arriving in winter or shoulder seasons to confirm staffing and water availability.
