About

Bivacco Rosaire et Clermont stands at 2,699m on the Franco-Italian border in the Massif des Écrins, accessible via the Vallée de la Guisane from Arvieux. The approach takes 4–5 hours from the Pont de l'Alpe trailhead, climbing through alpine meadows to reach the bivacco's exposed position above the Lac de Lérié. This is a serious mountain approach with significant elevation gain; fit hikers only. The final section involves scrambling and route-finding across rough terrain. In winter and early spring, avalanche risk and snow cover make access technical or impossible.
The bivacco operates as an unmanned refuge with 18 beds across two small dormitories. There is no running water, no heating, and no warden. You must be entirely self-sufficient: carry a sleeping bag, cooking fuel, food, and water. A small supply of emergency water sometimes exists on-site but don't rely on it. The structure offers basic shelter only—toilet is a pit outside, and conditions are spartan. The hut sits within Parc National des Écrins and serves mountaineers accessing the Pic de la Font Sancte and traverses across the high plateau to Briancon or south toward the Italian valleys.
Access the hut using standard FFCAM/CAF procedures: there is no booking system as it remains unmanned and free. Go prepared for alpine weather and total self-reliance. Summer (July–August) is the only realistic window; autumn and winter close it down entirely.
