Rifugio Oratorio Di Cuney

Rifugio Oratorio di Cuney sits at 2,655m in the Mont-Rose massif on the Italian side of the Alps. The hut serves as a base for mountaineers and hikers crossing between the Aosta Valley and the Ticino region. Reach it from Alagna Valsesia in roughly 4–5 hours on foot, following the Gressoney valley trail system. The approach gains 1,400m of elevation and is straightforward but steep in sections. You'll cross alpine meadows and scree before reaching the hut near the Paescia Glacier.
The rifugio accommodates 32 people in small dormitories. Hot meals are served in the evenings; breakfast is available before early starts. Water comes from snowmelt and mountain springs. The hut has basic but adequate facilities—communal sleeping, a functioning kitchen, and a stove. There's no shower or heating beyond the communal spaces. The season runs roughly June to September, depending on snow conditions and staffing. Winter visits are possible by arrangement only.
Contact the hut directly by email or phone to reserve beds. Book at least 3–4 weeks ahead for July and August. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard. The hut can arrange porter services and can provide updates on current conditions and route options. Bring a sleeping bag liner, as blankets and pillows are provided but linen rental is not always available.
