Cabin de la Tsa

Cabane de la Tsa sits at 2,607m in the Chamonix valley, reached from the Vallée Blanche or via the Mer de Glace approach. The walk from Montenvers takes 4–5 hours and involves steep terrain with fixed chains in places. This is a mountaineer's hut, not a casual destination. You need solid fitness and head for heights. Winter access requires alpine skills and crevasse awareness.
The hut holds 32 beds in shared dormitories. The guardian serves evening meals and breakfast; bring a packed lunch or order one ahead. Water is available on-site. There's no kitchen for self-catering. The hut operates year-round but receives fewer visitors November to March. Summer sees constant traffic—it's a working base for climbers tackling Mont-Blanc and Gran Paradiso routes, not a quiet retreat.
Book by email or phone as soon as you know your dates. July and August fill 2–3 months ahead; June and September book 4–6 weeks in advance. Arrive by mid-afternoon to settle in before dinner. Confirm your arrival time when you book, especially if you're arriving after dark or in poor weather. Check recent trip reports: the approach changes with glacier conditions and rockfall risk.
