Cabin des Dix

Cabane des Dix sits at 2,928m on the border between Switzerland and Italy, in the Monte Rosa massif. Reach it from Saas Fee in 4–5 hours on foot, following the Saastal valley then climbing steeply to the hut. The route is well-marked and popular with trekkers heading toward Monte Rosa or crossing into Italy via the Col de Lis. Most hikers arrive via the Mattmark Dam approach, which reduces walking time by roughly an hour.

The hut sleeps 115 people across multiple dormitories and a few private rooms. The SAC (Swiss Alpine Club) runs a full kitchen that serves three meals daily—book your dinners and breakfasts when you reserve beds. Water comes from the mountain stream; there is no self-catering kitchen, so you eat what the hut provides. The building stands open from late June through September, with reduced capacity in shoulder months. Cell reception is unreliable; plan accordingly.

Book directly with the SAC Monte Rosa section by email or phone. July and August are fully booked 6–8 weeks in advance, so reserve early. June and September offer more flexibility. Expect to pay roughly 50–70 CHF per bed plus meals. The hut is a solid base for Monte Rosa ascents, traverses toward the Gran Paradiso, and high-altitude day hikes in the massif.
