Refuge du Carro sits at 2,764m in the Tarentaise valley of Savoie, on the eastern flank of the Massif de la Vanoise. The hut is reached in roughly 3 hours from the Champagny-en-Vanoise side, following a well-marked path through larch forest that opens onto alpine meadows. Winter access is severely restricted; the hut closes from November through May. Summer is the only realistic window.
The refuge holds 61 beds across multiple dormitories. Meals are provided (half-board or full-board), with simple evening fare typical of FFCAM refuges—soup, bread, cheese, and a main dish. Water comes from the adjacent stream. There is no electricity; lighting is by gas and headtorch. Toilets are basic. The hut operates mid-June to mid-September, dependent on snow melt.
