Refuge du Prariond

Refuge du Prariond sits at 1,950m in the Chaîne de la Bauges, above the Lac du Prariond in Savoie. Reach it from the village of Lescheraines on the western side of the range. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours on foot from the road head, gaining 500m through mixed forest and subalpine meadow. Winter access requires skis or snowshoes depending on snow conditions. The hut marks the crossroads for several ridge traverses and loops in the Bauges, making it useful for multi-day trips linking the Chaîne des Aravis to the north and Mont Charvin massif to the south.
The refuge is small and simple: 20 beds in shared rooms, basic dormitory conditions. Meals are available—half board is standard. There are no showers, limited electricity, and toilet facilities are basic mountain standard. The hut stays open from June to September. Winter weekends may see occasional use by ski tourers, but staffing is irregular.
Book directly by email or phone. July and August weekends fill quickly, especially if you're linking multiple huts on a longer route. Contact the hut 2–3 weeks before your trip to confirm availability and menus. Weekdays in June and September offer quieter conditions. The hut is unguarded in winter, so arrange access in advance if you plan an off-season visit.
