Refuge du Col de l'Arpettaz
3.1About
The hut accommodates around 50 people in dorm beds. FFCAM manages the refuge and serves dinner and breakfast during the season. Flush toilets are available—a rarity at this elevation. The refuge operates year-round, though winter access requires mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness. Most visitors come June through September. The setting is austere: tussock grass, rock, and views north into the Massif de la Vanoise.
Book directly by phone as far ahead as possible if you're targeting July or August weekends. Single nights are often available with less notice on weekdays. The refuge fills quickly during July school holidays and again in late August. Expect basic, communal sleeping arrangements and straightforward cooking. This is a working hut for mountain crossers, not a comfortable refuge with all mod cons.
