Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II Nuovo sits at 2,735m on the Gran Paradiso massif in the western Alps, managed by CAI Sezione di Torino. The standard approach follows the Val di Cogne valley from Cogne village (1,534m). From Pont de Rhêmes at the valley head, count 3–4 hours to reach the hut. The final stretch climbs steeply through alpine meadows. In winter and early spring, avalanche risk closes the valley road; check conditions with the Aosta Valley park office before you go.

The hut holds 120 beds across multiple dormitories. Half-board (dinner, bed, breakfast) is standard; full board available. The kitchen cooks hearty mountain food, and the bar stocks grappa and coffee. Water comes from snow melt. Electricity runs on solar and generators. The hut operates year-round, though winter staffing is limited—call ahead if you're going November to April. The hut serves as a base for Gran Paradiso climbs and ridge traverses across the massif. Acclimatization here before attempting 4,061m Gran Paradiso is sensible.
