Alpe Starkatsgund
3.6About
The hut operates as a working alpine dairy farm (Sennalpe) that also welcomes walkers and mountaineers. Capacity is modest—expect 15–25 beds in simple dormitory rooms. The kitchen serves hearty regional food, including fresh dairy products made on site. Meals are typically available for lunch and dinner; book in advance if you plan to eat. The hut has no shower but provides basic washroom facilities. Water comes from mountain springs. Open year-round, though facilities and services are more reliable from May through October.
Contact the hut directly by phone or email to check current opening status and to reserve beds and meals. July and August see heavy foot traffic; book at least 4–6 weeks ahead for these months. Outside summer, booking is less urgent but still recommended. The hut is staffed by the Sennerei family and operates on a smaller scale than DAV-managed huts, so expect a more intimate, working-farm atmosphere rather than a busy mountain resort.
