About
The hut operates as a simple mountain shelter with around 50 beds split between dormitory rooms. Meals focus on traditional Bavarian fare: hearty soups, schnitzel, and local cheese. The kitchen provides packed lunches for the next day if you order ahead. Water comes from a spring on the property. The hut sits just below the tree line, so it feels exposed in bad weather but offers views across the Allgäu to the higher peaks. Altusrieder Hütte is a DAV hut and opens year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and you should confirm before travelling in December through February.
Book direct with the hut keeper by phone or email 4 to 6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. July and August are busy; June, September, and October offer better availability and equally good weather. The hut accepts card payment and offers half-board rates.
