About

Alpe Obere Kalle sits at 1,201 m in the Allgäu Alps of Bavaria, high above the Großer Alpsee near Immenstadt and inside the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park. It is a working alpine farm (Alpwirtschaft) and mountain restaurant rather than a club-owned overnight hut. In summer roughly 70 young cattle graze the pastures alongside pigs, chickens and rabbits, while the kitchen — run by Lisa and Christoph Frank with their team — serves regional, seasonal fare, daily-changing hot dishes and home-made cake. As a member of the 'Allgäuer Alpgenuss' initiative, the alp uses only its own or regional produce. It is easily reached from the Alpsee Bergwelt adventure park at Bühl am Alpsee: a chairlift climbs to the mountain station, from where the alp is just 15–20 minutes on foot, making it a popular family destination with a playground, alpine coaster and climbing forest nearby. Walkers can also ascend from the valley station in about 1.5 hours. The kitchen serves from 11:00 to 16:00 and the alp is open from mid-May to early November, closed on Mondays.
