Alpe Stockach

Alpe Stockach sits at 1,532m in the Allgäu Alps, accessible from the village of Oberstdorf. The approach takes 2 to 2.5 hours on foot via the Stillachtal valley, following a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through mixed forest and alpine meadow. You can also reach it from Faistenoy or via the Rauhhorn route if you're linking multiple huts in the region. The location makes it a natural base for exploring the quieter eastern Allgäu ridges and meadows.
The hut operates year-round and serves simple meals including hearty soups, bread, cheese, and regional Swabian specialties. Basic accommodation runs to around 30–40 beds in mixed and small private rooms. There's a common room with a wood stove, and staff can usually arrange packed lunches if you're planning a full hiking day. Water comes from the mountain spring. Mobile coverage is patchy. The hut is family-friendly and popular with local hikers and farmers using the alp seasonally.
Book directly by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead, especially for weekends and the July-August peak season. Friday and Saturday nights fill up quickly. The hut is less crowded than the major DAV huts closer to Oberstdorf, making it a good choice if you want a quieter experience while still having reliable food and shelter. Winter access depends on snow conditions; confirm opening dates before planning a winter visit.
