Grüntenhaus

Grüntenhaus sits at 1535m on the Grünten, a distinctive summit in the Allgäu Alps that rises prominently above the surrounding foothills. The hut is accessible from Sonthofen to the south via a 2-hour hiking route that gains roughly 650m elevation. From the north, approach from Wertach (roughly 2.5 hours, 700m gain). The Grünten itself is a popular day hike for visitors to the region, and the hut serves hikers moving between the Allgäu and the higher ranges to the east.
Grüntenhaus has 44 beds split across multiple rooms and caters to both DAV members and non-members. The hut serves dinner and breakfast, with a small selection of drinks and snacks available throughout the day. The basic facilities include toilets and washrooms with cold water; there is no shower. The hut operates year-round, though it closes for maintenance in November and sometimes during heavy snow periods in winter—contact ahead if visiting November–March. Half-board (bed plus dinner and breakfast) is the standard arrangement, though you can book bed-only if preferred.
Book directly by phone or email at least 2–3 weeks ahead for summer weekends (June–September). July is the busiest month; aim for 4–6 weeks' notice then. Weekdays and shoulder seasons (May, early June, September–October) have more availability. The hut prefers telephone booking. Payment is typically cash or regional transfer; confirm methods when you reserve.
