Willersalpe

Willersalpe sits at 1456m in the Allgäu Alps east of Immenstadt. The hut is accessible from the Illertal via a 2-hour hike from Faistenoy. The trail climbs steadily through mixed forest and alpine meadow, gaining roughly 400m elevation. Most walkers approach from the north via the Rauhenzell ridge route, which offers views across the Illersee basin and toward the Nagelfluh range.
The hut operates as a simple mountain inn with capacity for around 30 guests. Meals focus on hearty Bavarian fare—expect schnitzel, Käsespätzle, and fresh Kaiserschmarrn. Willersalpe has flush toilets and basic dormitory beds with blankets provided. The season runs year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and the operators' decision to staff the hut. Water comes from a natural spring on the property. The hut has no electricity but uses gas for heating and cooking.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 2-3 weeks ahead for weekends. July and August fill quickly. Willersalpe works well as a base for day walks into the surrounding Allgäu valleys or as a one-night stop on longer ridge traverses toward the Hochvogel or Mädelegabel. The hut is not a DAV refuge, so it operates independently with no membership discounts.
