Berghaus Allgäu

Berghaus Allgäu sits at 1,500m in the Ammergau Alps, accessible from the village of Unterammergau. The approach takes 2.5 hours on foot via marked trails through beech forest and alpine meadow. Mountain bikers can reach the hut in 1.5 hours from the valley. The location works well as a base for day walks into the Ammergau range or as a stopping point on longer routes heading toward the Zugspitze massif.

The hut has capacity for 50 guests and offers simple double and multi-bed rooms. Showers are available, which matters after a dusty day on the trails. The kitchen serves traditional Bavarian meals at dinner and packed lunches for onward hikers. The hut operates year-round, though weekends fill quickly during the main season from May to October. Staff can arrange hiking routes tailored to your fitness level and available time. The atmosphere is straightforward—this is a working hut, not a resort.

Book at least 2 months ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email. Winter visits require advance notice, as staffing is minimal. The DAV discount applies if you're a member of the German Alpine Club or its affiliated clubs abroad.
