Knorrhütte

Knorrhütte sits at 2,052m in the Ammergau Alps, a 3.5-hour walk from Oberammergau via the Rotbach valley. The hut stands in open terrain above the treeline, giving you views across the limestone ridges toward the Säuling and Hochplatte. You can also approach from Schloss Linderhof in 2.5 hours, which adds a castle walk to your day. The final sections are steep and rocky, so good boots matter.

The DAV-run hut sleeps 56 people in a mix of dormitories and a few private rooms. Meals are solid mountain fare—expect simple dinners and hearty breakfasts. The building has basic amenities: running water, heating in winter, and an outhouse toilet situation. There are no showers. The hut operates year-round, though summer (July-August) fills fastest and conditions underfoot become muddy in April-May. Winter access depends on snow conditions; contact the keeper ahead.
