Reintalangerhütte

Reintalangerhütte sits at 1366m in the Ammergau Alps, accessed via the Reintaler valley south of Oberammergau. The main approach is 2 hours uphill from the village of Unterammergau, following the Reintaler stream on a well-marked path. From Oberammergau rail station, allow 3.5 hours total including the walk to the trailhead. The hut works as a base for day hikes in the Ammergau, including ascents of nearby peaks like the Hochplatte and Aufacker, and serves hikers on longer routes through the western Bavarian Alps.
Reintalangerhütte holds 110 beds across multiple dormitory rooms and a few private rooms. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast daily, with a simple lunch option available. Showers are available for a fee. The hut has no WiFi—bring offline maps and inform contacts before you arrive. Staff speak German and basic English. The hut operates year-round, though it closes occasionally in low seasons (check before planning a winter visit). It's managed by DAV Sektion München and follows standard DAV hut standards for bedding and comfort.
Book accommodation directly by email or phone at least 4 weeks ahead for peak season (June to September and school holidays). July is busiest; aim for 6 weeks' notice then. The hut prefers phone contact for same-week bookings. DAV members receive a modest discount. Bring cash—card payments aren't always reliable in the Ammergau. Meals must be reserved when you book beds.
