Sepp-Sollner-Hütte

Ammergau Alps, Germany

About

Sepp-Sollner-Hütte sits at 1,922m in the Ammergau Alps, roughly 90 minutes' walk south of Unterammergau. The main approach follows the Linderhof valley, gaining 800m steadily through forest before breaking into open alpine terrain. You can also reach it from Schloss Linderhof in 2 hours, or approach from the south via the Schönangtal (2.5 hours from Hohenschwangau). The hut sits on the main east-west ridge traverse between Pöllat and Säuling, making it a natural stop for ridge walkers or anyone planning multi-day circuits in the Ammergaus.
The hut is a DAV-standard alpine refuge run by the Oberammergau section, sleeping around 60 people in mixed dormitories. The kitchen serves three meals daily plus packed lunches. Facilities are basic: no showers, composting toilets, and water from a mountain spring. The hut runs daily (when staffed) from May through October, with winter weekends available by prior arrangement. The atmosphere is genuinely local—expect to share space with climbers working the Schönangtal limestone cliffs and ridge hikers.
Book 8–10 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Mid-week slots are usually available. Contact the Oberammergau DAV section directly or use the DAV online booking system. Friday and Saturday nights fill first. Avoid assuming availability for short notice—this hut fills regularly. Wi-Fi is absent. Bring cash if paying the warden directly; card payment may not work reliably.
