Blankensteinhütte

Blankensteinhütte sits at 1,214m in the Benediktbeuren area of the Bavarian Alps, making it a solid base for walks and climbs in the Benediktenwand massif. The hut is accessible on foot from Benediktbeuren village—roughly 1.5 hours uphill through forest. In summer, a mountain bike trail also connects to the hut, cutting access time significantly if you're carrying a bike. The location puts you within reach of peaks like the Benediktenwand (1,801m) and connects to longer ridge traverses across the region. For winter mountaineers, the hut's elevation keeps it snow-reliable without being high altitude.
The DAV Sektion München und Oberland runs a straightforward operation here. Capacity is modest at around 40 beds split between dorm rooms and a few smaller spaces. The hut serves warm meals, typically hearty German fare—expect schnitzel, spaetzle, and soups rather than fancy cooking. They stock beer and soft drinks. Facilities include a basic self-catering kitchen if you bring your own food, and a small communal lounge. The hut is staffed year-round, though opening hours vary seasonally—check ahead before arriving in shoulder months.

The hut sits close enough to Munich that weekenders frequent it, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays. Midweek visits in May, June, September, or October offer quieter stays with reliable weather.
