Bavarian Alps, Germany
About
Bleier-Hütte sits at 2,105m in the Mangfall Mountains southeast of Bad Tölz. The standard approach is from Fischbachau via the Bockerlbahn cable car (saves 600m of ascent) then 2 hours on foot to the hut. Without the cable car, allow 4–5 hours from the valley. The hut also links the Alpspitz and Hochiss peaks for mountaineers doing multi-day traverses in this less-crowded part of the Bavarian Alps.
The hut is a DAV facility run by the Munich section (DAV München) with 50 beds split across dormitories and a few small rooms. The kitchen serves three meals daily: substantial breakfasts, packed lunches to order, and evening meals featuring local meat and produce. Hot showers and a small bar operate year-round. The hut opens mid-May through October, with the busiest weeks in July and August. Winter alpinism is possible for experienced groups; contact the warden ahead.
Book 3 months in advance for July and August weekends. The hut manages reservations directly by email or phone; walk-ins are accepted when space allows, but don't rely on it during peak season. The warden speaks German primarily, though basic English works. Pay by cash or bank transfer. Bring your own sleeping bag or rent one for €5.
