Buchsteinhütte
2.5About
The hut is run by the DAV and holds 50 beds in mixed dormitories with a handful of double rooms. A small restaurant serves lunch and dinner; book meals ahead during peak season. Water comes from a spring; there are no showers, only basic washing facilities. The season runs mid-May to late September, with reduced staffing in shoulder months. Winter mountaineers use it year-round with self-catering access to a locked winter room.
Book directly through the hut or via the DAV website. July and August weekends fill 4–6 weeks ahead; aim for midweek visits if possible. Half-board (bed and dinner) is standard. The hut sits on the Karwendel boundary; check weather forecasts carefully before heading up in spring or autumn, as ridge conditions change quickly. Strong afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August.
