Buchberghütte

The Buchberghütte sits at 1,015m in the foothills south of Bad Tölz, in the northern Bavarian Alps. Reach it from the town of Bad Tölz by hiking southeast toward the Buchberg—the approach takes roughly 2 hours on well-marked trails through beech and spruce forest. The hut works as a base for day walks across the Toelzer Land, with routes to nearby peaks and ridges. Its low elevation makes it accessible in shoulder seasons when higher huts still have snow.
The hut offers 30 beds split across shared rooms. The kitchen serves hearty Bavarian meals at dinner and packed lunches for hikers heading out. Facilities include hot showers and drying rooms—essential after wet weather in the foothills. The hut is managed by the DAV and operates year-round, though staffing is reduced in winter. Wi-Fi is not available.
Book during summer weekends by calling ahead at least one week in advance. July and August fill quickly with families. Weekdays and September onwards are quieter. Email enquiries work but phone contact gets faster responses. The hut sits close enough to Munich and Bad Tölz that day-trippers also use it—arrive early on weekends if you haven't reserved a bed for lunch.
