Voit'l Hut am Zwölferhorn

Voit'l Hütte sits at 1,516m on the Zwölferhorn, a limestone peak in the Berchtesgaden Alps south of Bad Reichenhall. Reach it from the Bayerisch Gmain valley via the Weißbach gorge in 2.5 hours, or from Schellenberg in 2 hours. The walk is steep but well-marked. Most hikers approach from the Weißbach car park, which fills quickly on weekends. The hut stands in open alpine meadow with views across the Berchtesgaden range.
The hut is run by the DAV and offers around 60 places in dormitory rooms. Half-board meals are available, with solid Bavarian food cooked on-site. There's no shower but you'll find basic washrooms. The hut opens year-round, though staffing is minimal November to March—check ahead before winter visits. Mobile phone coverage is unreliable; assume it won't work.
Book 4-6 months ahead for July and August, especially weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone (08651 417) or email. The Whit holiday and September weekends get busy. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure a good bed space in peak season. The hut sits on several long-distance routes, so Friday and Sunday evenings are always full during summer.
