Kienbergerhütte

The Kienbergerhütte sits at 1,015m in the foothills south of Bad Tölz, in the northern Bavarian Alps. Reach it from Bad Tölz town center by following the Isar valley trail southward—a straightforward 2-hour walk. The hut lies on the popular route toward higher peaks like the Benediktenwand (1,801m), making it an accessible starting point for day hikes and longer ridge traverses into the Benedikt range.
The hut is a working DAV refuge run by the local section. It offers 40 beds in mixed dormitories and serves hearty Bavarian meals at lunch and dinner; half-board is standard. The beer garden operates year-round on weekends and serves day hikers. The hut has no electricity or running water—water comes from the spring, and heating is via wood stove. This adds to the appeal for hikers seeking a genuine alpine refuge experience without the crowds of higher huts.
Book direct by phone or email, especially for weekends and July through September. Friday nights and Sundays fill quickly. Outside summer, the hut stays open most weekends but verify ahead in November and January. Winter access depends on snow conditions—call to confirm if you're planning a winter visit.
