Kührointalm

Kührointalm sits at 1,536m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, accessed from the Wimbach valley near Bad Reichenhall. The approach takes 1.5 hours from the Wimbachklamm car park, following a well-marked path through forested slopes. The trail gains 400m steadily but without technical difficulty. Summer access is straightforward; winter routes depend on snow conditions and require experience with avalanche terrain.

The hut is a DAV-standard mountain inn operating year-round. It sleeps around 30 guests in mixed dorms and a few small rooms. The kitchen serves traditional Bavarian fare at lunch and dinner, with hearty breakfasts included in overnight rates. Water and toilets are basic but reliable. The location makes it a natural base for exploring the Hochkalter massif and the interconnected trails through the Wimbach basin. Day hikes to nearby peaks and passes run 2–4 hours.

Book direct by phone or email at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. The hut fills quickly during school holidays (especially late July) and around public holidays in May. Winter weekends also book solid. The keeper can advise on current conditions and route conditions in the Wimbach valley. Friday-to-Sunday stays are standard; mid-week nights are easier to secure. Payment is cash or bank transfer; card machines are not always reliable this far into the valley.
