Kührointhütte

Kührointhütte stands at 1,539m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, a solid day's walk from the Königssee valley. The standard approach is from Schönau am Königssee via the Funtensee and up the steep Kühroinkopf. Allow 4.5 to 5 hours from the village. The hut is well-placed for ridge hiking in the Berchtesgaden limestone country and sits on the direct route between larger huts if you're planning a multi-day traverse. The approach is steep and rocky but non-technical.
The hut is a DAV operation with capacity for around 50 people. It serves proper meals including packed lunches with advance notice. Rooms are dormitory-style with blankets and pillows provided. There's no WiFi, so you arrive genuinely disconnected. The water supply depends on weather and can run dry in late summer—staff will advise. The hut operates year-round but staffing and meal availability drop significantly outside summer and weekends. Check ahead for winter opening dates.
Book by phone directly with the hut. During July and August, call well ahead—aim for 6 to 8 weeks minimum, especially for weekends. The ridge above the hut draws day-trippers on clear Saturdays and Sundays, which means the hut fills quickly even midweek. Shoulder season (June and September) is quieter and still offers reliable good weather for hiking. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure a decent bed location and make the most of daylight for exploring the surrounding peaks.
