Paul-Gruber-Haus

Paul-Gruber-Haus sits at 950m in the Bavarian Alps foothills, serving as a base for hikes into the surrounding limestone ranges. Access is straightforward by car to the nearby parking area, then 15–20 minutes on foot to the hut. The location works well for day trips or as a staging point for longer mountain traverses in the region.
The hut is run by Naturfreunde Deutschland and offers simple, clean dormitory accommodation with around 30 beds. Meals are available daily including hearty Bavarian fare and packed lunches for hikers. Facilities include a small bar, drying room for wet gear, and basic shower and toilet blocks. The hut operates year-round, though it's most active from April through October when the hiking season peaks. Winter visits are possible but check ahead for staffing.
Book directly by phone to check availability, especially for weekends and school holidays. Groups should contact the hut at least 2 weeks ahead. Summer weekends fill quickly, so contact in early May for July and August dates. The hut welcomes day visitors for meals and drinks even if you're not staying overnight.
