Posch'nhütte

Posch'nhütte sits at 1,531m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, accessed via the Königssee valley southeast of Berchtesgaden town. The standard approach climbs 2 to 2.5 hours from Schönau am Königssee on the eastern lakeshore, following a well-marked path through mixed forest that gains roughly 600m elevation. The hut serves hikers heading toward Hochkalter and those traversing the limestone peaks between Königssee and the Saalach valley. Snow closes the access route from late November through March most years.
The hut holds around 40 beds split between dormitory and a few smaller rooms. The keeper provides evening meals and a basic breakfast, with a small bar for drinks. Toilet and shower facilities are simple but adequate. The building sits exposed on open slopes, so weather can turn suddenly. The hut operates from late April through mid-October, closing during winter when snow blocks reliable access. This is a working hut, not a resort—expect straightforward mountain hospitality.
Book directly by phone or email at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Mid-week stays outside summer need less advance notice. The hut fills quickly during Pentecost and German school holidays. Arrival by 5pm gives you time for the evening meal; notify the keeper in advance if you'll arrive later. Payment is cash only.
