Stegleitnhütte

Stegleitnhütte sits at 1,532m on the eastern flank of the Hochkalter massif in the Berchtesgaden Alps. Reach it from Berchtesgaden via the Klausbachtal valley, a steady 4–5 hour walk on well-marked forest trails. The hut also connects to the Gotzenalm to the south and links into the broader network of Berchtesgaden hiking routes. Start early from the valley floor and expect gradual elevation gain through beech forest before breaking into alpine terrain.
The hut is a substantial DAV facility with space for around 120 guests across dormitory and double rooms. It serves hot meals year-round and stocks beer and soft drinks. The kitchen operates on a simple menu basis—book meals when you reserve your bed. Toilets and washbasins are basic but functional. The hut opens year-round, though staffing is minimal in winter; contact ahead before visiting November to March. Summer sees heavy traffic from Berchtesgaden day-trippers and Munich weekenders.

Mid-week slots fill faster here than quieter huts because the Klausbachtal access is reliable and the walk is moderate. Arrive by early afternoon to secure hot water for washing.
