Radstädterhütte

The Radstädterhütte sits at 1760m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, accessed from the Radstadt valley near Berchtesgaden. Reach it in 2.5 hours from Radstadt village via the Ramsauer Straße, then the marked trail through beech forest that opens gradually onto alpine meadows. The approach is steady but never steep. In winter, snowfall often closes the road access and you'll need full winter mountain skills.
The hut is a traditional DAV-affiliated refuge offering 50 beds in dormitory rooms and a few doubles. The kitchen serves hearty Bavarian fare for dinner and breakfast. The hut has running water and composting toilets. Shower facilities are available. The season runs from May through October, though it operates weekends only in May and November. In July and August, expect it busy with families and guided groups.
Book ahead during peak season—contact the hut directly in June for July visits. Outside July–August you have more flexibility. The hut prefers telephone or email bookings over online systems. Arrive before 18:00 for dinner service. It sits on no major long-distance route so most visitors are day-hikers from the valley or doing 2–3 day trips in the Berchtesgaden massif.
