Sulzkarhütte

Sulzkarhütte sits at 1,543m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, on the eastern flank of the Hochkalter massif. Reach it from Berchtesgaden town via the Sulzbach valley. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from Berchtesgaden-Strub, following a well-marked path that gains 700m steadily through mixed forest and alpine meadow. In winter, snow closes the upper sections; the hut operates as a summer destination only. The location works well as a base for traversing the ridgelines around Hochkalter (2,607m) or pushing north toward Reiter Alpe.
The hut is a traditional DAV-affiliated mountain inn offering around 40 beds in mixed dormitories and a few double rooms. The kitchen serves simple Bavarian meals at lunch and dinner, with self-catering possible if you bring supplies. Hot showers and a common room with wood stove provide basic comfort. Breakfast starts early for hikers heading out. Cell reception is weak but present. Water comes from a spring source on-site.
Book directly with the hut for July and August—these months fill 4–6 weeks ahead. Weekends get busy year-round during the season. Outside peak summer, walk-in arrivals are usually fine.
